Working and Writing
I’ve managed to spend the last year and nine months writing full time. As my wife says, I’ve been employed (by me), just not gainfully.
Well, that’s come to an end.
Right before Christmas I began working for a paycheck again and figure to keep working at least part time for a good long while. I’ll be writing (metadata, content, and whatever else they need) for a local marketing firm that is very much on the front edge of web marketing–a great group of folks, who, like me, came to Fayetteville, WV to raft or climb or boat or bike and decided they wanted to stay.
For me, this is uncharted territory. I’m curious to see how well I can sustain my own writing in the face of project deadlines, work-related writing, meetings and office time. My hope is that my need to write fiction has been developed to the point where it is somewhat self-sustaining.
I know there will be times when I’m beat and have to force myself to get into the writing shack at night or squeeze a bit of writing in a 30 minute hole, but I’m looking forward to have that need, to be chomping at the bit to get my writing out.
And I’m also looking forward to the new challenges of the job.
Hope your 2011 is the year you want it to be. Happy New Year!
