Been busting my hump over here. Up in the wee hours to write and then day jobbery. I’m one scene from finishing this round of edits of The Cloud Chamber then off to beta readers. So there’s that.
Started Towers of Midnight and am loving it. Something about those old familiar characters keeps me coming back. Not unlike Mr. Waits.
Earth Day and Easter. These holidays have been brought to you by the letters “E” and “A”. Have a good one.
I just checked my post history and today marks a year to the day of my first blog post here at Words and Coffee. I’m not sure what I thought when I launched W&C beyond that I was entering a bit of flash fiction in Ken Scholes’s contest and I needed some sort of web credentials.
I’m glad I’ve kept it going. Hopefully those who’ve stopped by have gotten some use from the posts. I try to keep it mostly about writing and reading. As of late, I’ve incorporated some music in the Coffee Break series of posts. I’ll stick to this format for the foreseeable future.
It has been a pleasure getting to know some of you through your comments here and by visiting and commenting over at your blogs as well. I sure appreciate the support.
Above all, I know that this last year has changed me for the better. Between writing, reading and, most importantly, being with my 4 year old daughter and my wife of almost 10 years (this August!), I feel like I’m living the life I want to live. Sure, I have to remember to enjoy the writing process and not focus so much on the end product–same thing with helping to raise my daughter–but those are awesome problems to have.
I look forward to another year. Here’s Tom Waits singing Angels in Heaven. It comes on strong, so keep your volume control handy.
I’ve found religion–the religion of writing. The words are all angels.
The barn leaned over
The vultures dried their wings
The moon climbed up an empty sky
The sun sank down behind the tree
On the hill
There’s a killer and he’s coming
Through the rye
But maybe he’s the Father
Of that lost little girl
It’s hard to tell in this light
And I want to know
The same thing
Everyone wants to know
How’s it going to end?
From “How’s It Gonna End” by Tom Waits
And that, my friends, is why we write. Isn’t it? I’m dialing back my social media ramblings for Dec. so that I can find out the answer. Enjoy!
In the crook of the Quiet Sea’s eastern shores lies the grime-ridden sprawl of Stelinople, a city of industry ruled by the Magnate Trust. Searching for new energies to fuel its furnaces and mills and manufactories, the Trust has fixed its gaze squarely upon the Jashem, seeking the energy locked in that scoured desert land. And the Yürük Çin who draw upon it. Read More
