I could listen to Gillian Welch and David Rawlings for about ever.

Do yourself a favor and take a five minute break. Your ears will be glad they did.

Effin’ love this. Put your coffee in something with a lid and hang on.

Coffee Break No. 13 – Fantasy in Classic Rock

I’m sure this has been done to death, but I’m listing my five faves, thus dating myself. I’m old and I’m proud.

In the Court of the Crimson King – King Crimson

Just read the lyrics and tell me you don’t want to write the novel based on this song.

The Battle of Evermore – Led Zeppelin

Ring wraiths, Avalon, dark lords, swords — duh.

Lucky Man – Emerson, Lake and Palmer

In fairness, Greg Lake was in King Crimson before he spawned ELP, but still. It’s awesome!

Dream Weaver – Gary Wright

Astral planes, trains, and highways of fantasy – a sci-fi/fantasy mash-up of delights.

Tales of Brave Ulysses – Cream

Like many great fantasy stories, Cream base their tale on ancient mythology. Plus, there’s a little steampunk thrown in. And you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun. Brilliant!

Tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers, indeed.

These are five of my faves. Are there any songs, recent or not-so-recent that you dig for their fantasy vibe?

Fearing additional insect visitations, I did the only sensible thing: I searched for some sweet, sweet music.

Here are the fruits of my labor. Enjoy!

There’s the spider again. Maybe it just wants a sip of coffee.

Coffee Break No. 8 – M. Ward

Some of M. Ward‘s music conjures sepia toned photographs, scratchy Victrola records and cold beer on ice in a galvanized bucket. At least for me (check out the second song to hear what I mean). Since I have no beer on ice, I’ll settle for a cup of strong, black coffee.

And from one of his early albums, one of my faves:
