Animated Films

I got this from Shaun Duke’s blog The World in the Satin Bag. His is a thoughtful blog about all kinds of stuff SF&F and beyond. Check it out.

I should preface this that I’m your average watcher of animated movies. That’s changing some as I have a soon-to-be 5-year-old and she’s starting to really get into full length animated movies.

Here goes.

All the animated movies in the world, sort of:

– X what you saw
– O what you haven’t finished/seen or saw sizable portions
– Bold what you loved
– Italicize what you disliked/hated
– Leave unchanged if neutral

As a parent of three, we never watch animated movies that is a lie. A big anime one we've gotten into as a family (my oldest is seven - so this might be later on for you) is the Last Airbender Series. Really. My husband and I will watch episodes after the children go to bed. He-Man and She-Ra were a staple with my brother and ME. We re-enacted many a scene and after watching it recently, I had to call him right that second. "GUESS WHAT I AM WATCHING?!" Have you re-watched All Dogs Go To Heaven since watching it as a tiny person? Completely inappropriate for children. The 80's??? It's amazing any of us made it out unscathed. I love how a lot of the animated films these days have as many jokes for the adults as they do for the children.

I never dug on She-Ra. How come she wasn't She-Woman? What's all this Ra stuff? These are things I need to know. As for All Dogs, I never did see the movie, just stole the sign.

Just stopped by and had to laugh about the theft in R.I. Truly funny! Car breaking down...not too funny. When my oldest daughter was born and started to move around the house, she was into everything. She was a 'dumper'. Pick things up, put them in a container...she would dump it. Her brother, two years older, began to yell '23-19!!!' anytime she got into anything. 'Monsters Inc.' was a favorite movie at the time, and 23-19 was the code announced when a monster had contact with a human child. The decontamination unit would then shave down the monster and shower him off. It still makes me laugh. We had a lot of '23-19' codes back then. Now, she keeps her bedroom the neatest of all.

I look forward to watching Monsters Inc. with my girl (hopefully soon). Love the code 23-19. I may have to start using that and then laugh secretly to myself since no one will have any idea what I'm talking about.

Disney's Robin Hood is both my and Pantea's all time favorite as well! However, in Iran they cut out the scenes when they celebrate the victory at the archery contest and the foxes go behind the waterfall.

Well, those scenes really didn't add anything to the movie anyway. I watched most of it with Zora a while back and realized just how much of a romance that movie is. She's not allowed to watch until she's 18.
      • ReplyBraddock
I'll see if Pantea still has the Iran version for Zora to watch until she turns 18.
