A Year of Blogging

A little wiser, a little better, a long way to go.

I just checked my post history and today marks a year to the day of my first blog post here at Words and Coffee. I’m not sure what I thought when I launched W&C beyond that I was entering a bit of flash fiction in Ken Scholes’s contest and I needed some sort of web credentials.

I’m glad I’ve kept it going. Hopefully those who’ve stopped by have gotten some use from the posts. I try to keep it mostly about writing and reading. As of late, I’ve incorporated some music in the Coffee Break series of posts. I’ll stick to this format for the foreseeable future.

It has been a pleasure getting to know some of you through your comments here and by visiting and commenting over at your blogs as well. I sure appreciate the support.

Above all, I know that this last year has changed me for the better. Between writing, reading and, most importantly, being with my 4 year old daughter and my wife of almost 10 years (this August!), I feel like I’m living the life I want to live. Sure, I have to remember to enjoy the writing process and not focus so much on the end product–same thing with helping to raise my daughter–but those are awesome problems to have.

I look  forward to another year. Here’s Tom Waits singing Angels in Heaven. It comes on strong, so keep your volume control handy.

I’ve found religion–the religion of writing. The words are all angels.

  1. Happy blogger-birthday to you! ;-D We’ve been online about the same amount of time. I’m like you, I love the way writing has expanded my world-view.

Here’s to another year of Words and Coffee . . .

  2. I recently discovered your blog and have enjoyed it very much. Finch is on my wish list. May it be another year.

  3. Happy Anniversary(s)…wow, I wonder how many words that has been (how many angels have visited)? Glad you’ve stuck to it, I certainly benefit, if not from your to-the-point-posts, but from your excellent taste in music!

    1. Thanks! Glad you’ve enjoyed the music. I have no idea how many words it has been–Hold on….*calculating* A conservative estimate puts me somewhere in the 45k range (150 or so posts x 300 words each). Cool. That puts me somewhere right around 320k words since last April between the novel, short stories and the blog. My day suddenly looks brighter.

  4. Congrats, Jonathan – I admire your dedication, and I’m glad that you have been able to get to that most important place – not just living, but living the life you want to live.

And Zuzu says, “If words are angels, then every time Jonathan writes, an angel gets its wings.”
